The concept of Rumblefish was conceived one dark and miserable afternoon as I sat in my London flat contemplating my neighbour's row of bricks after just returning from a Red Sea photography trip.

The idea had been building in my head for quite some time that I had firstly, had enough of London (after 28 years!) and secondly that I wanted to build my own dive boat.

Several months previously I had been on a summer sojourn back in Kiwi and was quite impressed by the 12m police chase RHIBs built for patrolling the Americas Cup regatta in Auckland. They were quick, stable and a smooth ride.

I was amazed that very few dive locations in the world utilised these larger RHIBs for what to me, was their perfect application. On the internet I tracked some down in Fiji but the main usage for this design globally seemed to be for inshore rescue boats that could operate in severe weather conditions.

Suddenly, the seed was sown... a fast all-weather dive machine!!!

rumblefish

Within 3 months my flat was on the market and I was heading back to NZ with an new idea burning away in my head.

I contacted the designers of the police RHIBs and sat down with them to discuss the feasibility of building a similar design but able to take 10 divers + crew + equipment and still do 30 knots+.

Hence Rumblefish was born...
